No worries, mount the scope (Not THAT way!!) If the ring alignment is good, the 2 points should line up perfectly. Each bar is tapered to a centrepoint and the centrepoints of the 2 bars are facing each other, almost touching each other in the middle between the rings. This is done by clamping a steel (aluminium)round bar into each ring on the base, which is mounted on the reciever of the rifle. Sako 30-06, if you're getting someone to mount the scope, ask that the rings be checked for alignment. Then procede with the allignment as previously stated. That will be as close to factory zero as you can get. Then do the same left, right while counting, half way back left. Go back up with half the amount of turns needed to go down. Then adjust down all the way by counting the number of turns needed. Get the factory zero by adjusting up all the way. Once your allignment is done with the rings and bases you snuggle the scope and tighten up. By doing this yo lessen the amount of adjustment needed for finetuning and thus leesen the straign on the reticle. Now adjust your bases and rings with one another as close to possible with zero on target at 25 meters as Thomst described or if you can get your hands on a laser( the one thats like a bullet that you feed into the chamber) even better. Put the scope in the rings, but don't tighten it yet, just a loose fit. If the scope is new and has never been fitted, it is still at its factory zero. Sako you got a great scope in the Burris and don't let anyone tell you any different. This saves you lots of ammo, use the info as you wish. Now you can start shooting and do fine adjustments with turrets on scope. Now adjust windage by adjustments on scope bases, by keeping rifle centered on target through barrel and moving crosshairs of scope onto target. Remove bolt and look at target 25m away through barrel, moving rifle on sandbags to centre target in centre of barrel. Some scope bases allow you to do rough windage adjustments by allowing you to adjust the rings sideays. Now count the revolutions as you turn it to the right all the way and come back half the revolutions to the centre. Make sure your scope erector set is centered: turn the windage dial all the way to the left untill it wont go any more. Make sure your crosshairs are level! check against horisontal or vertical line on rifle. You stop turning ring when the crosshairs come into focus for the first time. If still blurred, continue turning focus ring in half turns. If the cross hair is blurred, turn focus ring in half a turn, relax eye (look at sky), and take a peek at sky though scope. (dont look too long as your eye will adjust to the picture). Bring the rifle/scope up to your eye and briefly look though scope at thr sky. Then relax your eye muscles by looking at something neutral like the sky of distant clouds. Sako 30-06, use the weight ammo that you will be using most often.īefore even going to the range: focus the cross hairs on the rifle by turning the focus ring allmost all the way out.
